Is it possible to import videos from my HD video camera using HDMI cable?

I have a Canon Vixia HV30. I read in the manual that HDMI is for TV only, but none of my computers have a firewire dock. I tried to connect to a laptop via HDMI and it was not detected (the camera was on, and on play mode). Is there some program I need to find?

It’s not a software issue – your PC’s HDMI connection is output only. There are HDMI input devices but it would be much cheaper to install a firewire card.
