Digital cam videos only play as sound files?
Can anyone tell me why the mini vids I do on my dig cam only play back as sound files in windows media player? Am I doing anything wrong? They play ok on my cam but once downloaded onto my laptop- will not
the camera will be recording in a really strange format, its usually to make it so you have to buy the software that will allow you to play your footage back on the computer.
find out what the file type is that your camera is recording as by going to one of your videos and right clicking on it and selecting properties.
itll be called something like “MOV00045.AVI” …the .AVI part is the file type. so whatever it says there, is the file type of your camera. it might be .WMV, .WMA. .avi. .MPG, or any kind of strange three letter combination. you get me?
now, go to google and type in the file type, then ‘converter’ into the search box.
eg. “AVI converter”
see what results you get. basically you need to find a converter that will turn your videos into files that will play on your computer.
however… it might actually just be that your computer doesnt have the right codecs.
before trying everything I just told you, go to the link below and install the codec pack in the link. dont worry, its not a virus or anything like that, and is in fact a really handy little thing thatll let you play almost any type of movie file on your computer
if they still dont play, do what i said before and look for a converter that can deal with your camera’s video file types.
