my lens and frame camera help?
i have a camera here is whats in it:
Carl Zeiss Tessar 2.8/5.6 mm lens with autofocus
5 megapixel (2595 x 1944 pixels) CMOS sensor
5.6 mm focal length corresponds to a 35 mm frame
please could u all keep it very simple and reply in 3 seperate stages.
1) is this wider then a normal lens?
2) it says 5.6mm so will it take pic as this lens regardless of the frame(35mm)?
3)if the frame has alot to do with it taking pics, then why is the camera madeas 5.6mm when it wont do it at that lens as frame is less. why didthey mke it at 5.6? thank you

What it is saying is that the lens is an F2.8. This describes the aperture of the lens. Aperture is how big the hole is that lets light pass through the lens to the sensor.
The 5.6mm is the focal length of the lens. It is the equivalent of a 35mm focal length on a 35mm camera. The reason the lens is 5.6mm is because the sensor on your camera is significantly smaller than that of a 35mm camera. They make the lens to have the equivalent field of view. Meaning what you see with your lens will be the same as what you would see with a 35mm lens on a 35mm camera.
If your camera uses a 1/2.5 sensor (the most common for p&s cameras) then the crop factor is 6.2 which would mean that a 5.6mm lens has the equivalent field of view of a 35mm lens on a 35mm camera.
