Which is best SLR camera for diamond jewelery photo graph for my website ,I want 100% clear picture .How much lenses capacity should be use for best picture . What is difference between Micro and Macro lenses and there use and its advantages for jewellery’s photograph. Please advise me ASAP.
A macro lens usually has a maximum subject magnification of life size at the film or sensor plane, a micro lens usually gets in even closer to 5x life size or even higher unless you want to fill your image with individual details of hallmarks you probably want a macro lens.
Be careful as many lenses touted as macro, such as 70-300 telezooms are nowhere near macro, and due to a lack of floating elements perform poorly at their closest focus distances.
You need a dedicated macro lens, with todays DSLRs and their high resolution even shorter lenses such as 50mm which offer 1:2 half size scale are fine, these designs are often cheaper, but can suffer from poor coatings or other artefacts as they are older designs for film cameras, not reflective digital sensors.
My favourite macro is the Sigma 70mm DG f2.8, very very sharp at all apertures, no distortion and solidly built, not a fast focusing lens, but for macros you want manual focus anyway.
Get a translucent product photography box and a flash, get a tripod. Get a DSLR with at least 10mP (to allow cropping) get a cable release, get a cam with live view.
I would go as far to say buy a cheaper body and use the money saved for a dedicated macro lens.
Something like a Nikon D3000 or EOS 1000D are capable enough cameras, spend the extra on a decent macro lens, either Canon or Nikons 60mm macro f2.8, or the sigma I mentioned.
For web use you’ll never stretch the camera, but if you get a cheaper lens, or non macro lens you are only going to kick yourself.
I would also recommend a steady tripod, such as manfrotto or giottis, and a sliding macro plate such as a manfrotto 454. All of this will mean you have the specific tools required to take excellent macro images.
Focusing is critical so tools like cable releases, locking the mirror up, micro adjust plates all make it more precise.
