Sometimes embedded standalone device are preffered more than PC-based units. In these systems, there is no need to communicate with a computer because it already has all the necessary components. It has a CPU, a hard drive, an operating system, a memory chip and the DVR, often complete with DVR security. Some equipment may even have two hard drives available to provide more space to store the videos. They can also have the capability to receive feeds from various surveillance cameras so as to keep track of the events in various locations.
An important benefit offered by the standalone digital video recorders is that the operating systems are safe from outsiders. This will still happen even if the device sends messages through the internet. Thus, they are safe from hackers and various types of malicious software. There is also less need to get the latest security patches from the OS provider. Eventhough this DVR security feature, administrators and some users may control the system from a remote location. It also has an interface which is much simpler compared to those that use a PC. With remote access and control, ensuring the security of a particular home or office is much easier and more convenient.
