Sony NEX-5 Battery NP-FW50 Review
Sony NEX-5 battery NP-FW50 Sony released the NEX-3 and NEX-5 are Alpha-series cameras. Both of them are almost identical, save for the build quality and movie recording capabilities. Both are very small cameras, though the lenses are a bit bulky, due to the camera’s APS-C sensor (which is 60% larger than a Micro Four Thirds sensor). The Sony NEX-5 is the current top model of the NEX-series of cameras, it is able to record video in 1920×1080, 17Mbps resolution.
The Sony NEX-5 uses a 7.2V 1080mAh lithium-ion battery with part number NP-FW50. Tested to the CIPA standard, the Sony NEX-5 battery is expected to get about 330 shots per charge. Expected NP-FW50 Battery life is shortened somewhat because while the camera is on and in Record mode, the Sony NEX-5 will continue to seek focus whether you’re in continuous or single focus mode.
The Sony NEX-5 uses a custom rechargeable lithium-ion NPFW50 battery pack for power, and comes with both a single battery and charger. The battery is rated for 330 shots per charge using the CIPA standard, which includes 50% flash shots with the detachable flash. Battery life is about average for an SLD, but we do recommend getting a second battery for your NEX-5 if you plan any extended outings.

Three E-mount lenses are being announced alongside the cameras – an 16mm F2.8 pancake, a standard 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 stabilized kit zoom and a stabilized 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 superzoom. Sony is also taking the unusual step of offering screw-on adapterlenses for its 16mm F2.8 pancake lens (they attach to the bayonet of the lens so can’t be used with other lenses). In a manner familiar from compact cameras, it will be possible to adapt the lens from its usual 24mm equivalent field-of-view using either an ultra-wide adapter taking it to 20mm equivalent or a fisheye that gives a 16mm equivalent view
