Do I really need the third hole in a wall socket?
I dont have any 3-prong sockets in my room and my minifridge has a 3-prong connector. Can I just buy an extension cord and plug it into the 2-hole socket on the wall and the 3-hole end on the extension or something like that?
You can but it isn’t recommended for safety reasons.
If the fridge fails in such a way that 110 is connecting to the chassis, it would be the job of the ground (the connector you want to remove) to sense the short and trip the breaker, without it YOU will become the breaker and the path to ground. Hopefully it won’t travel through your heart and kill you, a friend, or someone you love.
