Land Rover S1 dust and water proof mobile phone Review
Land Rover S1 outdoor mobile phone is dust&water proof and Shock/vibration resistant. The phone uses the battery provided by philips which enjoys a high reputation in long standby cells. In our test the standby time did not reach the promotion of 60 days, 24 days (10 days in the low temperatures of 0 degrees) is acceptale in such circumstance. Generally the standby time should be longer in normal condition.
However, apart from the night lights and the radio are fairly useful, other functions can be said as failure. There is No GPRS mutual positioning , and the screen color is only 64K. The most unacceptable one is that there is no phonebook synchronization.

Based on personal experience, I conduct a comparison on the outdoor cell phones NOKIA5500, Petfone and Land Rover S1.
NOKIA 5500′s performance is general and it applies to a short move across the mountains.
Petfone is weak in standby time and shock dust&water proof. But its GPS, intercom, and interactive features are the most powerful in all unlcocked cell phone I see by now. It can download custom and online maps, locate and monitor groups. You can choose this in the long time adventure of not very hard evironment.
Outstanding performance of the dust&water proof and long time standby is the main feature of S1. But the size and weight is large. And there is no other powerful functions. It is suitable for high altitude, long hours climbing activities under difficult field or self-drive trip.
